It’s been a while since I last touched base with you all about the progress of the Choose-Your-Own-Adventure game I’m working on. There’s been a whole heap of progress, including more assets having been made, a drafted plan for the map of the game and I’ve even made a couple of the stages for the game. Whilst I can’t give away too much yet, I have a story made up, along with direction on where to go – and most importantly, the majority of the mechanics of the game has been coded. Effectively then, we’re on the way to successfully releasing a game – But it’s going to be a while before a full release.
My time working on the game has given me a full story, as well as a working title: Zargak’s Zeal. There’s a basic page in the Current Projects tab at the top of the website, which will be filled out more as time goes on.
The game has a relatively strange camera system. The game is navigated by moving the character onto a button which will be in a static location on the map. The character moves onto the button, waits for 3 seconds and they’re whisked away to the next part of the story, based on the option selected.
A number of easter eggs, a number of different items which affect the game in little different ways and of course, secrets to be found. I’m expecting a full release no more than halfway through the year, but I’m expecting an alpha build to be ready probably no later than the middle of next month. That said, I’m not going to guarantee that – I’m a one-man band who’s committing to a lot of other projects in real life as well, so… Keep your eyes peeled on this website for more information. I’ll be keeping folks updated via the Zargak’s Zeal page.
I even got to make cute little things like the tree sprite below:
It’s fair to say that I’m pretty happy with how things are going in development at the moment.
Think the game sounds like a bit of fun? I hope it will be, but if the above sounds fun to you and you want to help me make this a reality, let me know if you’d like to alpha test it for me! This is my first project where I’d be looking for folks to test. I’m afraid it’s not a paid process, however upon completion, you will be one of the first people to get the game.
I’m also not planning on putting a price on the game, but where I release it is still up for debate. I’m not sure if I want it to go on Steam, or if I just want it to go on Itch.io, which kind of feels more appropriate.
Nevertheless, if alpha testing this game sounds like fun to you, I’ll be doing a future post to discuss alpha testing opportunities and ways for you to give me feedback. You can leave a comment below if you want me to keep in touch with you about testing, but it’s going to be reserved to those I’ve spoken to previously, be it offline or online!
That’s it for another week, thanks for coming back and I hope you all have a fantastic day. Keep working towards your goals, folks. Whilst you’re at it, go follow me on Twitter.
